Chicago: District Information

The Chicago Public Schools is the third largest district in the United States, serving over 420,000 students. The Chicago Public Schools has over 600 schools that serve a culturally and linguistically diverse student population. The CPS mission is to serve “Every Child, Every School” by building instructional capacity through strong leadership and teaching, standards-based curriculum, and data-driven practices. The CPS strives to build partnership with families, local school council members, community agencies, universities, and the civic and business communities to promote student achievement and the development of child-centered neighborhood and community oriented schools. The CPS currently has 6 demonstration schools participating in the Illinois-ASPIRE project under the leadership of Dr. Renee Grant-Mitchell, Chief Specialized Services Officer. These include:
